You just might win an autographed copy of SOUTHERN COMFORTS! http://getlostinastory.blogspot.com/2015/01/nan-dixon-brings-her-southern-comforts.html 4 1/2 Stars from Harlequin Junkie for SOUTHERN COMFORTS!!Posted at Jan 1, 2015 8:25 pm What a lovely way to start the new year. Valerie at Harlequin Junkie said some lovely things about the book–blush worthy! Here’s an excerpt of the review. Southern Comforts is the name of the restaurant Abby wants to open but does apply to the story in more ways than that. Ms. Dixon has given her readers an actual story with a fantastic line with two people who might as well be blind to themselves for as well as they see the other. There is love to share and while there are a couple of minor twists and a couple of OMG’s thrown in for good measure it is such a feel good you will be wondering where Ms. Dixon has been and where the next novel is, perhaps more for the sisters? This is a great read for someone who likes a bit of meat to their story and love in their eyes. At my house. On Friday I volunteered to host the party, because the woman who was scheduled to have it had a family emergency. I enlisted one of my sons to help decorate! I felt I needed at least one Christmas tree up. Everything was going according to plan. The place was clean–at least the rooms that didn’t have their doors closed. I was just blowing my hair dry and still had an hour before anyone would show up. Of course, someone thought the party started at noon instead of two! But, being used to delegating, I put her to work while I finished getting dress! At the holiday party, MFW, my chapter, celebrates the successes from the year. I received flowers for becoming PAN (Published Author Network). (And another bouquet for taking on the party at the last minute!)
But my biggest thrill was picking up my First Sale plaque. This is a group that understands all the work and time that has gone into getting SOUTHERN COMFORTS from idea to a bound copy of the book! Years in the making!! I will display this proudly in my office! Nice to be able to TOUCH that first sale!! SOUTHERN COMFORTS is Now Available!Posted at Dec 1, 2014 4:31 am Rule #2—Never get involved with a guest Abigail Fitzgerald has always followed her mama’s rules when it comes to running their family’s B and B. But her mama never had to resist a man like Grayson Smythe. A long-term guest, Gray spends his evenings having dinner with Abby in her kitchen—and it’s not long before their attraction begins to sizzle. Although Gray’s kisses are a delicious distraction, Abby’s priorities are the B and B and the dream of opening her own restaurant. And Gray definitely has the means to help her. But when money seems to be all he can offer, Abby suspects she might get burned.
Five Days until the Release of SOUTHERN COMFORTS!Posted at Nov 26, 2014 5:58 pm Happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for this season. So do the turkeys to the right—they won’t be on my table! I’m thankful that SOUTHERN COMFORTS releases December 1st. Plus, I have a brand new website! (Isn’t it pretty? Thank you Bemis Promotions!) And there’s fun family news. More about that later. I never quite made Teaser Tuesday this week. There’s a learning curve that goes with this new website and blog. So this will be Wonderful, Wacky Wednesday. What’s wacky about today? It started with a slippery, sliding drive to the dealership to get my oil changed and tires replaced. I think I will be here a while. (Note to self: The day before Thanksgiving is not the time to book car appointments. It’s nice that the dealership provides a lounge and wireless. Looks like I will be eating the smashed mangled power bar I found at the bottom of purse for lunch. Mother Nature is making sure we have a white Thanksgiving here in the Midwest. This is making me a little nervous about the daughter flying in from Kentucky—the newly engaged daughter. (Wheeee!) She wants a Bourbon and Lace theme to her wedding. I guess she really has acclimated to living in Kentucky! So this week, SOUTHERN COMFORTS got a Must Read from USA Today! What a wonderful thing to wake up to on Monday morning. (It’s scary putting your book out for reviews.) What was even more thrilling was that Michelle Monkou sent a twitter note asking when the next book would come out and who it would be. I’m working on Bess and Daniel’s story and waiting to see if my editor likes the proposal. So what’s wacky about SOUTHERN COMFORTS? All the daughters are named after President’s wives. Mamie, the sisters’ mother, thought the wives were stronger than the actual presidents. She also started the tradition of naming the B and B rooms after the president’s wives. Her daughters have continued the plan. And each room contains a write up on the woman. So Abby’s full name is Abigail Adams Fitzgerald. (Abby is definitely prettier than this!) And when there is no Fitzgerald male heir, the women keep their surname so there will be always be Fitzgerald living in Fitzgerald House. I hope you and your family have a safe, wacky and wonderful Thanksgiving.
Teaser Tuesday – Southern ComfortsPosted at Nov 18, 2014 10:00 pm There’s only 13 days until SOUTHERN COMFORTS hits the shelves!
I thought I would give you another taste of the story. And there is a lot of tasty food in the book.
Abby Fitzgerald, the heroine, received her culinary training in New York City. After a broken engagement, she returned to Savannah to help her sisters run the family B and B. Now she’s chef of the struggling B and B.
Grayson Smythe, a Boston real estate developer, has negotiated a long-term stay at Fitzgerald House. All his meals are included and he spends his evenings eating dinner with Abby in her welcoming kitchen. Gray has a weakness not just for Abby’s Brandy Pecan Bars but also for Abby. But he’s never sure if she’s interested in him—or his money.
Here’s the excerpt:
“It’s a cash-flow issue. We’ll see if we can get a loan, but…” Abby shrugged with a tight smile. “I know how much you love my brandy pecan bars. How much would you pay for a lifetime supply?”
A chill settled over Gray’s skin. Was she joking, flirting—or testing the waters?
He’d eaten in her intimate kitchen for the past three weeks. And they’d spent hours talking. He’d told her more about his life and his family than anyone back in Boston. They’d become friends. Why couldn’t he tell what Abby wanted?
He was paying her for the room and the meals. And now Abby suggested he could buy a lifetime of her bars? Had to be a joke. He kept his own tone light in response. “It might be worth it.”
He tugged her out of her chair, and when her body brushed his, it was as if he’d grabbed a live wire.
Did she feel this connection, too?
“Do you have a restaurant you’ve wanted to visit tonight?” He couldn’t stop brushing her knuckles with his thumb.
He thought he saw confusion in her green eyes. At least he wasn’t the only one.
“There’s a little Italian place over on York Street called Amore. We can walk over if you want.”
So, they would go out to dinner. It didn’t have to be a big deal; they’d had plenty of those already. Then they’d see what happened next. “I’ll make a reservation.”
Once I launch my new website—you’ll be able to grab Abby’s Brandy Pecan Bar recipe.
Teaser Tuesday! Southern Comforts receives 4 StarsPosted at Nov 11, 2014 9:36 pm RT Book Reviews have given SOUTHERN COMFORTS 4 Stars! COMPELLING—PAGE TURNER. I’m thrilled.
SOUTHERN COMFORTS is a sweet story with a bit of excitement thrown in. The romance between Abby and Gray seems to build naturally, and Gray’s complex personality is particularly well drawn. RT Book Reviews December 2014
With only twenty day until SOUTHERN COMFORTS releases, here’s another little teaser.
“Actions speak louder than words.”
Tears trickled down Abigail’s cheek. The ice in her eyes frightened Gray. “I’m going back to Savannah. I’m going home.”
“Abby.” This couldn’t be happening. Not when he was in love with her. “Stay. Please.”
“We’re done.” She wheeled her bag around him.
Desperate, he blurted out. “I think I’m in love with you.”
She stopped. Her shoulders shook. She turned around, pity filled her face. “You can’t buy my love, Gray. That’s not how it works. It’s something I would have given freely.”
Panic bubbled inside his chest like lava in a volcano about to blow. “I’m not trying to buy your love.”
She didn’t even stop.
He ripped a hand through his hair. He’d been trying to help her, for God’s sake. And she’d thrown everything back in his face. He told her he loved her. He had the money. He could fix her problems. Make her life easier. Why wouldn’t the stubborn woman let him help?
Hope you enjoyed it!
I’ll be a Guest at Romancing Christmas!Posted at Nov 5, 2014 3:53 pm Stop over if you get a chance. I’ll be there starting at 10:30 Central Time on Wednesday! there’s a ton of Giveaways! One would be SOUTHERN COMFORTS! Teaser Tuesday!Posted at Nov 4, 2014 6:59 pm SOUTHERN COMFORTS releases in just twenty-seven days! My debut novel and I can hardly wait. The book is set in the gorgeous Savannah historic district. The Fitzgerald sisters run a bed and breakfast in their partially restored family mansion. Growing up, they’d help Mamma run the place and four years ago they took over the running of the B and B. Even now they still quote their Mamma’s rules on running Fitzgerald House.
Here’s a sample of some of Mamie Fitzgerald’s rules on running a B and B.
Rule #1—The guests are always right, even when they’re wrong.
Rule #5—Never yell at a guest. Not even under your breath. (I’ve found the second-floor linen closet is pretty soundproof.)
Rule #11—If cleanliness is next to godliness, then Fitzgerald House must be heaven.
Rule #16—Never let a guest see you sweat.
Rule #40—Dream big, dream often, but don’t let it keep you from your work.
But the rule Abigail Fitzgerald is having the most trouble with is—
Rule #2—Absolutely never get involved with a guest. It’s not well done.
Abigail Fitzgerald has always followed her mamma’s rules when it comes to running their family’s B and B. But her mamma never had to resist a man like Grayson Smythe.
